A Certificate From A Country That Has A Bilateral Agreement On Social Security With The Uk

If you work or live abroad, you either have the state subject to social security or the host country. In both cases, you must make arrangements to ensure that you will remain insured after moving to your new country. The following lists reflect existing totalization agreements for other selected nations. Workers exempt from social security contributions under a totalization agreement must document their exemption by obtaining a country coverage certificate that continues to cover it. If you work in another country because of coronavirus (COVID-19), you will continue to pay social security contributions or, as usual, UK national insurance – unless you are told something else. For workers in the EEA or Switzerland, the employer can obtain an A1 certificate from the authorities of the country of origin stating that the worker is only entitled to contributions in the country of origin for the period covered by the certificate. This will allow the worker to remain in the social security field of his country of origin and exempt employers from paying national Class 1 insurance premiums in the UK for the period covered by the certificate.

If an A1 certificate is not obtained by the authorities of the country of origin or if the period covered by the A1 certificate expires, Class 1 NCS are payable in the United Kingdom. For a worker, employer or self-employed person to contribute only to Canada`s pension plan and be exempt from participating in the pension plan in the other country, that worker, employer or self-employed person must have a Canada Revenue Agency coverage certificate. A coverage certificate is used to inform the other country that the worker is covered by the Canada pension plan. As long as you have a valid A1 form, the authorities in your host country must recognize it.
